Experience shared by DFAE

As I’m working as a DFAE, I was into development for 1yr and having Mtech in VLSI design and Embedded system I never thought in my mind that i will take a Field job.

So, there were multiple thoughts and reasons which caused turmoil in my mind.

Reasons:
I was in development and worked with very peaceful people, everyday people used to come to meet us. We used to teach Field service engineer that how to debug the field devices to rectify errors. So i wasn’t able to think any job other than R&D because my mindset became rigid, non adaptable, introvert.
But one lay off changed everything in fact it became a turning point for my career.

So in my point of view, we as an electronics engineer should not restrict ourselves to single field/project. Because concepts are same everywhere only application changes and the way we organize our if/else loops, zener, MOSFETs.

So to freshers i would suggest be flexible, adaptable, experimental, respect all jobs, improvise communication skills, humble, keep learning.

Thoughts:

In my first job met few FAEs, I was so frightened by their Daily routine which included

  1. customer interaction.
  2. customer problem solving.
  3. handling multiple projects without having prior experience of that work.
  4. Traveling to various location within city mostly.
  5. sometimes meeting with tough and arrogant people.
    So these thoughts caused a dead lock in my mind when i got the opportunity to work a FAE.

Today working in a Distribution partner company i found that whatever was the experience with other FAEs was because of their non learning attitude, poor communication skills, non flexible and non adaptable nature.

Atlast DFAE is not purely technical job.
This is 50% tech+ 20% sales+20%marketing+10% skills, implementation, observer, communication, presentation.

For electronics fresher and experienced people year 2026 should be a “Skill Development and Basic Electronics Knowledge upgrade” year.
